Zappos

Tony Hsieh’s online shoe and fashion retailer that championed customer service was bought by Amazon in 2009 for a sum of $1.2 billion. This was one of Amazon’s first expansions beyond books.

Kiva Systems

Founded in 2003, Kiva developed and manufactured robotic systems for a variety of uses. It was bought over by Amazon in 2012 for $775 million and rebranded as Amazon Robotics.

Twitch Interactive

Twitch is a live-streaming video platform, particularly popular among video game enthusiasts who broadcast their plays. In July 2014 Amazon acquired Twitch for $970 million.

Whole Foods Market

With clean eating on the rise could Amazon be far behind? The organic grocery store chain, which has been around since the 1970s, was bought in 2017 for a whopping $13.7 billion.

PillPack Inc

The online pharmacy was founded in 2013. Acquired by Amazon in 2018 for $753 million, PillPack retains its brand within Amazon’s subsidiaries.
