Insights From Google’s John Mueller

What To Keep In Mind, According To Mueller

John Mueller leads the search relations team at Google and when he speaks, the digital world listens! Here are some insights for 2020-2021.

Google rebranded the old Google Webmaster Central to Google Search Central and continued efforts with mobile-first indexing. (Google will still index sites that are not mobile-first though).

Core Web Vitals

Core web vitals are part of a page UX, like page load speed, how interactive the page is, stability, mobile-friendliness etc. Google added 3 new metrics to this list: LCP, FID and CLS.

Technical SEO Push

Mueller indicated at a talk late last year that sites that are technically better with sound technical SEO have an advantage.

User Pull

Mueller stated that sites should now focus on “user pull,” or the ability to get people to search for you by your brand name.

FAQ Schema Scaled Back

FAQ schema was added in 2019 and guidelines around it were tightened in 2020. Google is now scaling back which sites show the FAQ rich results in search.
